Domes Housing Process

Domes are constructed following a method that requires a tough, inflatable bladder, steel-reinforced concrete and insulation.  The first step is to inflate the bladder.

Once the concete has hardend, the bladder can be removed as in the picture below.

Finally, the carpenters are hangng the door.

Nice and white, to reduce heat absortion. Notice too, the ventilation in the roof.

 

These will provide excellent shelter, at a minimum cost, for our loved ones.

 

 



Dome Housing Under Construction in Haiti

The new style of home being built at Espwa is the Dome or also referred to as EcoShells.  The dome is a housing solution in Haiti because the EcoShell is one of the strongest structures available. An EcoShell can be built with few materials and can be completed in as little as four days. The raw material resources needed to build EcoShells are also typically found in any locale. EcoShells are also virtually disaster proof. A dome's shape and composition provides resistance to high winds up to category 5 hurricanes.

The village will consist of one 20 foot Entrance Dome; one 32 foot Sanitation Dome; one 32 foot Education/Recreation Dome; two 20 foot Residential Domes and four 32 foot Residential Domes.

Administration Center is off to a great start!

Just a few months ago, the construction of the Administration Center began. The Center will not only provide a better work environment for the administration staff but will also provide a facility for job training and a computer lab. In the picture below, the Masons are applying the coating on the ceiling, interior, and exterior walls. Soon a plumber and electrician will complete their work to lead to the completion of the first floor.

The Administration Center will have a court yard where the doors to all of the offices can remain open for the workday.

X-ray Equipment is Operational!

New medical technology is operational at Pwoje Espwa Sud. ? Hurray!

During the planning stages for Pwoje Espwa Sud’s new medical clinic, it was our dream to be able to include modern technology. Generous donors made this dream come true with contributions to cover the cost of digital X-ray and ultrasound machines.

Arnie Teppo, an echo technician from Vancouver, WA, and Denise Hinatsu, an x-ray technician from Vancouver island, Canada, along with Dr. Cynthia DeSoi, Espwa’s own Medical Director, worked for more than two years to plan, choose, and implement this project. Our medical staff is being trained, so that they can take full advantage of these important diagnostic tools. This technology will also be beneficial to our visiting medical teams.
